Alleged Gang Member Sentenced For Westchester Shooting

An alleged gang member will spend more than a decade behind bars for a shooting in Westchester.

A North Bronx gang member has been sentenced to prison time for shooting someone in the face in Mount Vernon.

Bronx resident Dahjauntay Douglas, 22, was sentenced to 12 years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision after pleading guilty to first-degree assault in July for his role in a shooting in Mount Vernon last year.

On Oct. 4 last year, Douglas fired two shots on Gramatan Avenue, near the West Sidney Avenue intersection in Mount Vernon, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., said. One of those bullets struck a passenger in a moving vehicle in the area.

Scarpino said that the victim was struck in the face and suffered serious injuries. Mount Vernon Police investigators obtained surveillance footage of the incident and Douglas was subsequently arrested. The investigation also determined that Douglas is an alleged member of a North Bronx gang.
